We were asked to rebrand a unilever product and change the
target audience and then produce the advert, we chose Brut as they haven’t done
a marketing campaign in a long time and as a business they are slipping
slightly in terms of sales so we felt that it would be good to give the
deodorant company a fresh look. Currently brut is advertised at middle aged to
older men as it contains outdated ingredients such as lavender and lime which
are very rarely seen in modern deodorants from brands such as Lynx or Sure, we
chose to advertise it towards 16-25 year olds, we did this by showing that the
‘man of the hour’ was using brut, you can see the male actor help the
attractive woman and then spray himself with brut while peppering it with
comedy to make it more memorable.
I then set up 9 questions to ask my peers to find out how
they felt the advert had come out (results shown above) I do feel I should have
asked more in depth question and I was disappointed as to how basic my feedback
was with yes or no answers for questions that I would have liked some more in
depth answers. 9/10 people that I questioned said that the advert successfully
targeted a youth audience and the one that disagreed went on to say that it was
purely down to the quality of my production they felt it was messy and it
didn’t get the point across well enough. Due to delays that were out of my
control I struggled to get the advert filmed and edited within my deadline and
therefore I had to make cuts such as using natural lighting instead of LED
lights and this made some shots look okay and some shots look poor, there were
points were we should have used 4 shots when we only used one and this was
partially down to time and also laziness on our part, being restricted to two
team members also meant setting up shots was difficult. Overall I feel happy
with what I have produced and I feel it does get the point across although with
some simple changes we could have massively improved the overall feel and look
of the advert. I felt the persuasive techniques I used worked well to address
it to my target audience as it shows a man doing respectful things and using
brut in order to get the woman. I feel the advert has massive potential to be powerful
persuasive and memorable although in its current state the poor lighting and
basic shot types take away the message I am trying to enforce I did follow all
codes and made this easier by keeping my content PG so there is no chance of
obstructing any codes.
The advert has not come out the way I would have liked it to
this is because during the filming stage I lost one member of my team and then
after filming was done I lost my other member so I have been doing a task for
three people on my own and this made things very difficult although I pushed
through and tried to make the best piece of work that I could. I would love to
try this advert again with some more preparation time and a complete team who
are ready to work hard and help me out.
