Depict Short Film Evaluation

       Short film 1:
https://www.depict.org/2008/enough/

The short film 'Enough' is based on a story about an old man who has had enough with his son bullying and being involved in gang affiliated crime.
The film begins with a close up of an old man staring plainly into the darkness he then has a sort of flashback and we see images of some boys beating up a young lad, this is used to show us that the old man has had experiences with bullying that had affected him later in life, this is later enforced by the fact that the man is drinking whiskey and look very dirty and untidy. the man then appears staring at the boys. he shouts at them and they run away they then use a high shot of the man helping the boy to help give off a sense of belittlement. the man then retrieves a baton and precedes to chase the boy down. When the old man goes down to confront the boy he gets stabbed by a youth in the group and the young boy starts shouting 'Dad!' this is where we learn as an audience that the man is in fact the boys father. the boys all run away leaving the young lad to take care of his father who is bleeding out.

Short film 2:

The short film 'ID' is very different from most of the other short films as it mostly consists of lots of still shots of Polaroid portrait photos from over the years with a voice over. i really like the fact that most of the photos are ripped and have water stains on this really works to show the audience a feeling of age, but also importance. the voice over was very jittery and wasn't very good quality and using a better quality microphone would have massively improved her film in my opinion. one other way i feel she could have improved it was by using a different background for each photo as this would have helped to give the feeling of age and sentimentality.

Short film 3:

The short film 'A TV Movie' is very clever as it shows a TV try and watch itself like humans and it gets comfy on the sofa with a blanket but when it drops the remote and sees what is outside it sits near the window and looks at what is happening and eats crisps like a human would do.
it is very clever in the way that it is shot with stop frame animation, it is done to a high level with no noticeable error and whilst also looking good it gets a very good positive message across. this movie is to show how we a s a society like to sit down and watch something that we cant actually see, and for someone who hasn't seen the outside, it is amazing.

Short Film 4:
The short film 'Scarecrow' is personally my favourite out of all the short films that I am evaluating as it is super scary and has a very good storyline. When the girl runs through the field the shot is very steady and seemingly shot with a drone or Steadicam, it then cuts to a close up of the girls glasses hitting the floor which further enforces the idea that she is running very frantically. the movie finishes with an establishing shot of the field with two scare crows stood lifelessly. this shot is very good as even though we didn't see any blood or gore we already have a very good idea of what may or may not have happened to the girls.
